The role of the gut microbiota in the pathology of cutaneous and renal glomerular vasculopathy (CRGV) – a shotgun metagenomic sequencing approach
Hypothesis and Purpose of Project Does the gut microbiota play a role in the disease process of CRGV? Establishing differences in the bacterial species in the gut microbiota of dogs suffering from CRGV compared to dogs suffering from Acute Kidney Injury, and Medically healthy dogs would improve our chances of identifying bacterial species that may be responsible for CRGV, either as a direct cause or as a contributing factor. Unfortunately, we have to confirm our first case of Alabama Rot, also known as CRGV, for this season.
The case was from Godstone (East Surrey). The UK has now seen 287 confirmed cases in total, with 8 cases in 2022. This disease is still rare, so we’re advising dog owners to remain calm but vigilant and seek advice from their local vet if their dog develops unexplained skin lesions. Further information and a map of confirmed cases can be found on our dedicated Alabama Rot website: https://bit.ly/3TUxtew |
