Jessica Worthington from Swindon discovered the devastating effect Alabama Rot has after one of her dogs died from the condition. She is now trying to raise awareness about it, by warning people to be vigilant against the disease which can kill their pets.
Both of Jessica's dogs contracted the disease which is slowly spreading across the country. Jessica noticed her dog Pippa had been licking her back leg, this was the first sign. Jessica's dog Pippa had to undergo plasma exchange and a dialysis after kidney damage was found in her blood samples. Deaths from Alabama Rot have been reported as far apart as Cornwall and North Yorkshire. There have been confirmed cases more recently in the south west. More recent clusters of confirmed cases are around the Malborough and Swindon areas. Jessica is now raising more money to fund research into Alabama Rot, having personally felt the devastating effects. Thankfully, Molly the spaniel, Jessica's other beloved dog survived the disease.
